CHAMP Day of Service Rescheduled for May 4

What is CHAMP Day of Service?

Connecting Hopes with Actions to Mobilize People, or CHAMP, Day of Service began as part of the new Chancellor Black’s request for a Day of Service during Inauguration Week Activities in March of 2011. CHAMP Day is a campus-wide day of service which provides the opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to contribute to the community by participating in volunteer projects throughout the greater Duluth community. Dozens of community organizations participated in this event to complete needed projects for their agencies. In fact UMD mobilized 293 volunteers resulting in 691 hours of service in one day. According to the Independent Sector the value of a volunteer hour in Minnesota is $20.90, which is equivalent to $14,441.90 contributed in service to the greater Duluth community.
